The inventor the game of baseball is Abner Doubleday in 1839 in Cooperstown, New York during the summer. The modern baseball field was invented in 1845. It became very popular in the United States during the 19th century. The game had many different names for it. Such as "townball", "base", or "baseball". The first baseball field was held on the Elysian Fields, in Hoboken, New Jersey. The most similar sport to baseball is softball. Now a days it is most common for girls to play baseball and girls to play softball. But even though the sport is similar, the rules are different in many ways. For example, baseball is over hand when you pitch, the field is bigger, most likely has grass in the infield. For softball, the field is much smaller, the entire infield in dirt, and you pitch underhand. My favorite baseball team is the Oakland A's. I have been a fan since I was a baby.
